Private Aviation Security Micro-Credentials

  

Modules: Day 1

Terrorism, a review of past events: 

  • Review      details of past and recent terrorism events
  • Highlight      threats to aviation security including PBS, HBS and NPS risks. 
  • Review      the impacts airline screening, origins for procedures such as full bag and      passenger search, removal of shoes and the LAGs restrictions. 

Hand Held Metal Detector (HHMD):

  • Review      of the Garrett super scanner, its potential limitations and features.
  • Testing      procedures before shift, after battery replacement and before “wanding”      each passenger.
  • Basic      pattern to ensure full coverage of the passenger.
  • Alarm      resolution.
  • Threat      detection.
  • Special      Screening Situations (ie Pacemakers) 
  • Local      Emergency procedures.
  • Hands      on practice with instructor coaching – 2 hours

Physical Search of Person (PSOP):

  • Understanding      the limitations of PSOP.
  • When      you need a witness, when the passenger needs a witness.
  • Private      vs Public.
  • Basic      pattern to ensure full coverage of the passenger. (Sensitive versus      excluded areas) 
  • Alarm      resolution.
  • Threat      detection.
  • Special      Screening Situations (ie Pacemakers) 
  • Local      Emergency procedures.
  • Hands      on practice with instructor coaching – 2 hours


Modules Day 2:

Physical Search of Carry-on Baggage:

  • Opening      questions (is this your bag, sharp or fragile items etc)
  • Basic      pattern to ensure full coverage of the bag. 
  • 100%      bag search requirement due to lack of EDT or XRAY.
  • Alarm      resolution.
  • Threat      detection.
  • Special      Screening Situations 
  • Review      of the posted CATSA Items list
  • Permitted      vs Non-Permitted vs Prohibited (illegal)
  • LAG      restrictions review
  • Local      Emergency procedures.
  • Hands      on practice with instructor coaching – 2 hours

Physical Search of Hold-Baggage:

  • Opening      questions (is this your bag, sharp or fragile items etc)
  • Basic      pattern to ensure full coverage of the bag. 
  • 100%      bag search requirement due to lack of EDT or XRAY.
  • Alarm      resolution.
  • Threat      detection.
  • Special      Screening Situations 
  • Review      of the posted CATSA Items list
  • Permitted      vs Non-Permitted vs Prohibited (illegal)
  • LAG      restrictions review
  • Dangerous      goods review
  • Local      Emergency procedures.
  • Hands      on practice with instructor coaching – 2 hours

Physical Search of Person (PSOP):

  • Review      pattern
  • Hands      on practice with instructor coaching – 1 hours


The training provided is "private” and is not considered to satisfy Transport Canada's Designation Standards for Screening Officers (DSSO) and the duties they must perform. 

Certificate will indicated success/unsuccessful completion of basic hand held metal detection techniques, bag search techniques and physical search of person techniques


Assessments:

Written assessment:

  • Multiple      choice. Minimum 20 questions. 
  • Must      obtain 85% or greater to move on to practical assessment

Practical Assessment: Must obtain 100% to be successful, trainers may require supervision for a set period of time based on applicants performance.

HHMD- The following items are placed on a model  

  1. 1      Permitted
  2. 1      Non-permitted
  3. 1      concealed (Prohibited) item.

The applicant is to perform the full pattern of HHMD/PSOP, resolve all alarms as they occur and locate the concealed item

PSOP - The following items are placed on a model  

  1. 1      Permitted
  2. 1      Non-permitted
  3. 1      concealed (Prohibited) item. 

The applicant is to perform the full pattern of HHMD/PSOP, resolve all alarms as they occur and locate the concealed item. 

PSOB – The following items are placed on a model  

  1. 1      Permitted
  2. 1      Non-permitted
  3. 1      concealed (Prohibited) item. 
  4. Answer      verbal questions correctly on the correct procedures for Dangerous goods      items on carry-on versus checked.


The applicant is to perform the full pattern of HHMD/PSOP, resolve all alarms as they occur and locate the concealed item.
